The deeper into fall we get, the harder it is to find flowering trees, shrubs, and perennials. However, there are a few foolproof plants that I think everyone should find a spot for in their garden. One of these plants is the autumn clematis, or Clematis terniflora 'Paniculata'.
This easy-to-grow vine can reach a height of 30 feet and will bloom for nearly a month in the fall. Paniculata loves partial sunshine and moderately moist soil. Mine is growing up a trellis next to the house. This allows the wonderful smell of the plant to waft into the windows during those warm autumn afternoons.
The plant is deer- and rabbit-resistant and makes a wonderful focal point in any landscape.
