I have had an awful problem with chipmunks, as cute as they are, they are very destructive. So...for every new or old chipmunk hole I find, I put several pieces of Juicy Fruit, unchewed in the hole. The critters eat it and die. I rarely see a dead chipmunk, but there are fewer and fewer every year.

They do a lot of damage no doubt about it. I would be curious if anyone has other methods to deter them, although this is quite interesting about how to rid the yard of chipmunks.

We have a problem with voles.... anyone have any suggestions as to how to get rid of them? They make these tracks in the yard that just look terrible.

You might try scattering moth balls around where the tracks are. They don't like the smell.

That is really interesting, Juicy Fruit chewing gum! And it actually kills them, whew, we might have to resort to this.
Though our dog harasses them relentlessly and they tend to avoid the yard.
They have dug tunnels in our retaining wall, which has caused some damage, so I put Irish Spring soap into their burrows. That seems to work and not kill them.
But the main thing that has reduced the chipmunk population around here, is that we had to stop feeding the birds, as there were too many tree rats. And we arent allowed to shoot the tree rats(squirrels)any more. Well, some people do, but we cant as we have too many grandkids and dogs running around our yard.
